So, John had an appointment with a pediatric ophthalmologist this morning, because his eyes sometimes looked crossed, and he has issues with the tear duct in his left eye. Anyway, everything is good with John's vision! It is mostly just an optical illusion when they appear crossed, although the doctor said they do sometimes cross, but not enough to worry about at this point. The doctor is concerned, however, about the tear duct- it is blocked, and so John will need to have a procedure to clear it, probably in May as we get closer to his birthday (I can't take the time before that what with state mandated testing, and then I have jury duty the last week in April). The procedure will require general anesthesia, but the doctor is confident that it will fix things (95% cure rate at 1 year old).
John weighs 19 1/2 pounds now! He is wearing mostly 12 months clothes, but they are a little loose- he fits the length but not the weight.

Here is video from yesterday evening.....
A couple of things I forgot to add yesterday:
JohnJohn likes to hold his own bottle now. It makes feeding him a bit easier. He weighs about 19 pounds and is close to two and a half feet tall (yes, we all know this is about half my height!!).
We have some great videos, however we filmed them in high-def and unfortunately their size exceeds the size limit on blogger, so I can't currently post them. But trust me, they are cute!
JohnJohn likes to clap- other peoples' hands! He'll grab our hands and make us clap, but only occasionally will clap on his own. He has also learned how to bang things together. I showed him with blocks one day after school, and two days later he did it by himself, and now he does it all the time, with blocks, little plastic balls, anything in his hand and the bottom shelf of the coffee table or sofa table. It is quite cute, of course!
John has changed so much over the last month! He looks so much like a toddler and less like a baby every day. He is so much fun to have around, and is still so easy going. John had his 9 month check up about 3 weeks ago. He was up to the 69th percentile for length based on his chronological age, and around the 25th percentile for his weight. He is long and lean, not like his momma! He is no longer on his reflux medicine, and we don't give him an iron supplement every day anymore because his blood work showed he was not anemic. We were giving it every other day but over the past couple of days have stopped completely. JohnJohn's two bottom teeth are most of the way in. It's hard to see them sometimes because his tongue is always there, but you can sure feel them! We think he might be getting one ready to break through on the top now. John loves to eat all of his Stage 2 foods but is particular about chunks in his Stage 3. He loves yogurt with pieces of fruit, he is crazy about bananas and pears (fresh fruit in little pieces, not pureed) and loves to eat the little Puffs that dissolve in his mouth- he practices chewing those and also some rice rusk thingys called Baby Mum-Mums. We are still hesitant to give more Stage 3 since they make him gag, but he likes fruit that is more solid, and that is good. He is getting much closer to getting around by crawling only- he does a sort of crawl up on his hands and knees and then swims/commando crawls for a bit. He is very mobile! John is also almost expert at covertly getting into a sitting position from a prone position, We don't actually see him do it- usually we look and ta-da! He's sitting up when he wasn't a few second ago. Very sneaky, our little man! Practicing for later sneaky activities, I'm sure! John loves going out and seeing people. His favorite places are Stevie B's on Addison Elementary night, and the park. At Stevie B's, he loves the attention he gets from everyone, and he doesn't have to sit in a high chair while we're eating- usually Morgan, a 7th grader and daughter of a co-worker, is holding him. John, of course, being the flirt that he is, eats it all up! We call her our school function Nanny. John loves going to the Roswell Area park, not too far from our house. They have walking trails and a really cool playground. The weather has been fairly nice (except for the day it snowed, although nothing stuck at our house and John napped the entire time it was snowing, so he didn't get to go out in it). We went to Addison one evening for the International Festival, and John was very cranky and cried most of the time and wouldn't let anyone but me hold him - he probably would have let his Daddy hold him, but his Daddy and Jim were too busy walking around eating all the food from the different nationalities! John wouldn't even let his school Nanny, Morgan, hold him! But then we went up there yesterday morning for our Foundation's Funfest, and he let everyone hold him who wanted to! He really liked seeing Ryan, who is 18 months old (see post from July 08). Of course, Ryan was only interested in the balls in the gym! Only one more week and our little monkey will be 10 months old! Hard to believe he's so old! (but then again, I'll be 42 at the same time, and it's hard to believe I'm so old!) I'm part of Addison's Relay for Life team.
