So, John had an appointment with a pediatric ophthalmologist this morning, because his eyes sometimes looked crossed, and he has issues with the tear duct in his left eye. Anyway, everything is good with John's vision! It is mostly just an optical illusion when they appear crossed, although the doctor said they do sometimes cross, but not enough to worry about at this point. The doctor is concerned, however, about the tear duct- it is blocked, and so John will need to have a procedure to clear it, probably in May as we get closer to his birthday (I can't take the time before that what with state mandated testing, and then I have jury duty the last week in April). The procedure will require general anesthesia, but the doctor is confident that it will fix things (95% cure rate at 1 year old).
John weighs 19 1/2 pounds now! He is wearing mostly 12 months clothes, but they are a little loose- he fits the length but not the weight.

Yeah! No glasses! It does look like he might need something to help him find his mouth though. What a mess! :-)
He looks so grown up. Glad his eyes were ok. Hope the duct procedure won't be too bad. Jury duty sounds like fun. Hal is jealous - he never got picked. I was on one jury and it waas very interesting. Hope to see you again soon.
Love, Grammy
He is so darn cute & so big...I can't believe it! Love the self feeding pictures.
Danielle used to look like she had crossed eyes too, and Andrew had a blocked tear duct (fixed by warm compresses). I'm glad he's doing well!
you might try Ro Ro's cure. Linda said it is very common and usually clears up by itself without the procedure by the time they are about 1 1/2. She said she'd talk to you about it.
Glad to see John has his toothbrush.

We've tried everything that has been suggested with no results, and lately the leakage has gotten worse, to the point where his left eye is stuck closed when he wakes up. His eyelashes on that eye are constantly goopy. And I know most kids grow out of it- but not all do. Most kids also make it to full term, don't spend weeks upon weeks in the NICU, etc. John is obviously not like most babies, and we'll be going through with the procedure as planned. It is scheduled for May 5.
John is definitely not like most babies! He's much better. Hope to see you even before May!
